Description

Rabeprazole (EC) & Domperidone (SR) Capsules

Category: Gastrointestinal Medication (Proton Pump Inhibitor & Prokinetic Agent)

Product Description:

Rabeprazole (EC) & Domperidone (SR) Capsules offer a powerful combination to manage gastrointestinal disorders, especially conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acid reflux, and dyspepsia. Rabeprazole reduces the production of stomach acid, while Domperidone helps in improving gastric motility, reducing symptoms of nausea, bloating, and reflux.

Composition:

  • Rabeprazole (20 mg, Enteric Coated): A proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that blocks the final step in gastric acid production by inhibiting the proton pumps in the stomach lining. This helps reduce acid-related symptoms and aids in the healing of ulcers and esophageal damage caused by excessive acid.
  • Domperidone (30 mg, Sustained Release): A prokinetic agent that enhances gastric emptying and increases the motility of the gastrointestinal tract. It works by blocking dopamine receptors, helping to prevent nausea, vomiting, and indigestion.

Indications:

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Acid reflux
  • Non-ulcer dyspepsia (functional dyspepsia)
  • Peptic ulcers (gastric and duodenal)
  • Nausea and vomiting associated with gastrointestinal disorders

Key Features:

  • Dual action: Rabeprazole reduces stomach acid secretion, while Domperidone improves gastric motility and prevents nausea, bloating, and regurgitation.
  • Enteric Coated (EC) Rabeprazole: Protects the drug from stomach acid degradation and ensures its release in the intestines for maximum effectiveness.
  • Sustained Release (SR) Domperidone: Provides prolonged relief by gradually releasing the prokinetic agent, ensuring long-lasting control of gastrointestinal symptoms.
  • Rapid and sustained symptom relief from acid-related disorders and associated gastrointestinal motility issues.

Dosage:

  • Typical dosage: One capsule daily, or as directed by the physician.
  • Dosage adjustments should be based on the patient’s condition and response to therapy.

Precautions:

  • Not recommended for use in patients with severe renal or liver impairment.
  • Domperidone should be used with caution in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias, as it may prolong the QT interval.
  • Prolonged use of PPIs like Rabeprazole may increase the risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Avoid use in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless advised by a doctor.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Headache, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth
  • Rare: Allergic reactions, QT prolongation (with Domperidone), hypomagnesemia (with prolonged Rabeprazole use)

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Rabeprazole, Domperidone, or any other proton pump inhibitors.
  • Patients with prolactin-releasing pituitary tumors (due to Domperidone’s dopamine antagonist effect).
  • Severe cardiac conditions, especially those involving prolonged QT intervals.

Storage:

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Note: Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions when taking this medication. If you experience any side effects or are on other medications, consult your doctor to avoid any potential interactions.
